Looking to the future
As teachers you will be responsible for preparing your students for an uncertain future. It is never easy to predict what the future will be like, much less guess what type of knowledge and skills will be needed. However, this is what will be expected of you. So we want to encourage you to begin thinking about this now. To get you inspired, we ask you to complete a few activities before coming to the second class of next week.

Activity 1: Watch this video. How close were the predictions? In what ways? How many predictions were 'way off' the mark? Why? What do you think these predictions were based on?

Activity 2: Take a look at these predictions and this short video. Think about which ones you think are accurate and why. Think, too, about how these changes would have an immediate effect on you and would affect your future students.

Activity 3: Read this short executive report. Take note of the competences and skills that you think are already covered in the schools or learning centres that you know (as learner, as intern, as teacher, as visitor)? How are they being taught? What competences are not focused on? Why do you think they are not included in the learning objectives? Can you think of some activities that might help promote the learning of some of the knowledge, competences and skills discussed in the paper? Can you think of other competencies and activities that could be promoted in language learning projects that are not mentioned in the paper?
