About this course

This course is based on a pedagogical model that we have called FIT: (Flipped & In-class instruction & Telecollaboration). It stems from approximately 15 years of experience in telecollaboration between the two teacher partners.
A core element of this course will be a 10-week interaction between students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)

The content is focused on how to plan, develop, implement, and assess Telecollaboration-Enhanced Project-Based Language Learning (TePBLL).
Because the students will be engaging in telecollaboration, this is meant to be very much a hands-on course. Students are expected to be active in class and outside the class and during the online meetings. They must also be willing to try out new things, be ready to have some technical glitches and be willing to work through them.In short - be ready to explore, to support your classmates, both in Illinois and in Barcelona, do the preparatory activities, be ready to talk about them and work with the ideas that emerge from the materials! But most of all, be ready to enjoy learning to become excellent teachers!

We assume that some of you have experience (perhaps even extensive experience) with some aspects of telecollaboration that we may be barely familiar with, while others will have no experience whatsoever. Both of these groups are absolutely welcome in this course and will serve vital roles. Because of this, this course will largely be held in a workshop format. Rather than taking the traditional role of the “all-knowing leader” (Ha!), we expect to be a member of these workshops who will guide students' direction. Given this format, the assignments for this class are designed accordingly.
